 🜏 About the Space

The Magnolia is a flex space—home to H.E.X. Collective LLC as well as several other businesses. It includes a retail shop where H.E.X. members peddle their wares for zero commission while external artists pay a 20% commission.

 

The space also boasts a 1000sqft Main Hall where H.E.X. artist are given the chance to have a solo showing once a year, keeping the gallery full all year long. The Main Hall is also home to weekend vending pop-ups and live performances, classes, self-help group meetings, other community programming, and more!

 

The overall space prioritizes programming that is artist-led, community-driven, unconventional, and/or aligned in ethos.

 

NOTE: The space is not ADA.

 

We do our best to accommodate marginalized communities though as a small and not-for-profit space, we unfortunately cannot serve everyone at this time. We hope it is understood that we will continue to work on a resolution for this as well as improve outreach and impact in positive ways— including the pursuit of grants to assist in obtaining funding to update the structure we lease.

 

Currently, H.E.X. Collective LLC, together with The Magnolia, are accepting proposals for workshops, classes, pop-ups, live performances, vendor activations, sober and self-help meetings, as well as other programming to provide the greater community with learning experiences and creative opportunities that they might not be privy to otherwise.

 

All booked time must include setup and breakdown within the total reserved time.

 

🜏 Cost

All costs in association with the space are structure-based and modeled on sustainability. All profits go back into the space. We have worked hard to create a financial plan that supports our existence and the community equally.

 

Community members can rent the Main Hall at our current rate of 

$25/hour with a two-hour minimum.

 

All members and non-H.E.X. community members can book our event space, provided there is room in the schedule. Please check our Google Calendar before submitting an application. 

 

Bookings are non-refundable due to there being no guarantee that we can recover a missed opportunity as the facility is self-supporting and greatly dependent on these bookings. Thank you for understanding.

The Magnolia and its partners stand for community, solidarity, and mutual respect.

 

We believe in the inherent dignity of all people regardless of where they were born, their ability, ethnicity, or gender-identify. What matters most to us is that we treat each other with mutual respect and kindness.

 

That being said, we are explicitly anti-ICE and have a no-tolerance of no-tolerance policy: meaning to say, we oppose oppressive immigration enforcement operations and the unnecessary harm they inflict on communities, migrants, neighbors, and families. We affirm the right of all people to live with safety, autonomy, and respect. We retain the right to reject applications and entrance of those individuals and groups that we feel do not align with The Magnolia’s policies.

 

🜏 What We Like To See

We welcome applications from artists, makers, organizers, teachers, yogis, bands, musicians, and vendors alike whose values reflect our own. We appreciate unique perspectives and voices from across communities that contribute to an inclusive and respectful space amongst us.

 

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ: 

We are an 18+ space due to much of the content. Please do not propose programming for children under 18 as we cannot safely accommodate.

 

We are a drug-free facility and that includes alcoholic beverages and marijuana.

 

No open flames (candles, etc.) or weapons of any kind are allowed on premise.

 

Although our current space is not readily ADA compliant nor can it reasonably be made so without exorbitant cost outside of our reality, we are looking into grants that might help us eventually reach compliance.

 

Verbal abuse and discrimination of any kind toward staff and / or patrons will not be tolerated and could result in immediate / possibly permanent banning from premises. 

 

Destruction of—whether it be made to the building, structure, and/or to the property of others—will be expected to be compensated for by the person(s) who destroyed it or the organizer of the event.
