Blood Honey confronts the mythology of virginity and the violation that too often defines its loss. The honeycomb and honeysuckle stand in for sweetness, purity, and abundance—symbols of innocence cultivated and admired. Yet, their placement on a field of crimson breaks the stillness, suggesting violence that corrupts what should have been gentle and life-giving. In this work, sweetness becomes complicit in its own destruction, purity is rebranded as a commodity, and the act of taking is hidden under the guise of tradition. The painting forces the viewer to consider how innocence is not simply lost, but stolen, leaving behind both sweetness and stain.
